Extra curricular activities are co-ordinated by Mrs Johnston who ensures children have access to a varied programme of activities. Activities run from 3-4pm. A number of sporting activities are provided for the children.
Hockey
Hockey Teams, both boys and girls, are coached each Tuesday on the School’s Astroturf Pitches during the Autumn and Spring terms. Coaching is provided by Mrs Johnston, Mrs Monteith and Mrs Lunn .These teams enter the Lisburn Schools’ Hockey Leagues and Annual Tournaments. Over the years our pupils have enjoyed much success in these competitions, both regularly qualifying to represent the Lisburn Area in the Northern Ireland Mini-Hockey Finals.
Badminton From December to March badminton coaching takes place after school in the School’s Sports Hall for P5- P7 pupils. The Badminton Teams, both boys and girls, have taken part most successfully in the Ulster Schools’ Badminton Associations Competitions. Mrs Smyth coaches our badminton teams.
Football Football coaching on the Prep Lawn is available after school in the Summer Term for P5-P7 boys. These sessions are led by the Grassroots Development Officer.
Tag Rugby / Mini Rugby Tag Rugby coaching after school is available for boys and girls in P4 and P5 during the Autumn Term. This activity is organised by IRFU coaches. These sessions take place either on the Prep Lawn or on the School’s Rugby Pitches. A Tag Rugby team is usually entered in the Lisburn Area Regional Blitz Qualifier Tournament in March. Mini Rugby coaching is also available in the Autumn term for girls and boys in P6 and P7. Coaching takes place on the School's Rugby pitches.
Athletics An Athletics Club is organised for P3-P4 pupils after school in the Summer Term. Coaching is provided by an Athletics Federation coach over a period of six weeks. Mrs Connolly co-ordinates and assists the supervision of this activity. Swimming At different times during the school year, P4-P7 pupils are given swimming lessons as part of their PE programme. Inter-House Class Galas are held periodically throughout the Autumn and Spring Terms and we also participate each year in the Lisburn Swim Meet. Top swimmers in the Prep are also entered in the Ulster Schools' Minor Swimming Championships annually.In 2010 the Prep swimming team won the Lisburn City School Swim Meet for the third successive year.
Sports Days We have our Annual Sports Days on the last Wednesday in May (P5-P7) and on the first Wednesday in June (P1-P4) to which parents are cordially invited. |
